The Blind Poet

Brian @dVerse invited us to write highlighting sound. Brian encouraged us close our eyes and imagine you are blind. Yes, see with sound-it was extremely difficult.   I wrote several poems, but they didn't work, until I wrote about my morning.   Thanks Brian-it was fun to attempt visuals with sound~

My day is poured
it jingles n' rattles me
I stir it clanging my memory-
it tickles
 citrus and smoke linger
perfuming the air
 a wet nose nudges me
whining, whimpering
whistling steam blows
daughter clicks it off
she laughs mumbling convo
with boyfriend
stomps away- her bare bones
 pound floor
portal opens as wind howls
everything shakes as
day drips and puddles.

Spinning thoughts enter
dryer buzzes
whining outside now
cold air stings and stabs my
  breath
measured steps click and clack around me
gasping air, pounding heart, insides churn
as bile rises-burns face
mind swimming
I'm locked out
pounded with wetness
singed with oh no, what if
trampled n' chilled
I pound,  rattle,
 twist n' turn
bare bones arrive
muffled voices come, too.
"Mom, what the heck?"
sharp pain rings as
 coldness drips
my thoughts paddle forward
warm lavender softness wraps
around me
hound howls
as I row onward into my day.

  2. I like it! It has great flow, splashes, splash backs, bobbing, floating, drifting... it holds a presence that makes me want to grasp it (and yet it falls through my fingers like water). Thanks!

  6. You've made your day come alive, Ella. See, one really does not need sight words to visualize. Love the presence of your dog. Smiles.

    1. Hi Mary-There is nothing like a howling hound to gain one's attention! My dog doesn't howl often. His nickname is E.F. Hutton-like those old commercials. lol Thank you~

    1. Hi kkkKaty! Yes, me too! My husband and daughter both have this walk I think it has something to do with high arches or something. They sound like dinosaurs stomping. My son and mother can sneak up on me-you can't hear them coming. So funny~ You were in my house ;D I will make you tea! ;D

  8. Oh this is just full of sounds and motion..........it sounds very BUSY, hee hee......but totally fills the bill for using senses other than sight, I loved the dog's wet nose and his howl.......and being locked out reminded me of one very early 5 a.m. when I was a teen and was wakened up by loud banging on the back door. I waited for my mom to get it and hen she did,t stomped downstairs all grumpy to answer it myself - and there SHE was, stuck outside stark naked with just an apron she'd found to put over herself, in a total panic as people were coming to work early across the lane. I said "OH it's YOU" and stomped back up to bed. Cackle.

    2. lol! You remind me-my son when he was three laughed at me when I put the mail out in my nightgown. Bribery worked...it was Alaska, snow everywhere and I'm in a tall man's T-shirt! OMG..that darn cat! I wish I had explained the cell phone better. Boyfriend calls every morning before she goes to school. I have a hidden key-now! Sherry thanks for sharing-lol

  9. In moving forward restraints and obstacles can present themselves as irritants against the 'smooth rowing ' forward. One must be wary and be prepared. Great thoughts Ella!

  13. When I was a kid, I would pretend I was blind, just to understand what life would be like. It is amazing how much sound is all around you that we never hear.
