Honey Let's Suckle

Honey Let's Suckle

Arms of angels
cascade n' tangle
 golden halos tickle my nose
seeping into grace of day
glistening gray wings whisper
along the briny sea as
more green stars burst
vines of childhood offer
 suckling cups of tea
to humming guests
 exit stage right as
magician's flame flickers

pockets of curling tendrils
coax ivy to play
creep n' climb wrought iron gate
sun's jewels a curtain against clouds of grey
face the bay blue window
perfumed waifs of honeyed air
shouts come-hither
as devotion drapes
n' enchanting sweet caress
we swim a dizzy dance.

  1. I love this...honeysuckle brings back such memories for me. I was raised in the country and every spring the air was full of its scent.

    1. Susie, me, too~ I was raised in a small coastal town by the shore. Honeysuckle grew and draped on the perimeter of my grandmother's lawn. You would smell it before you hit the shore. I have fond memories with her and my grandfather. We had tea parties once a week~ This poem captures some of my childhood memories! Thank you~

    1. It was my grandmother's favorite and she grew masses of it. I would have tea with her and after go visit her garden. I grew up near the bay so the mix of salty sea air and Honeysuckle is home. Thank you Kerry-this was a great prompt~

    1. It makes me wish I could have you all drop by for tea~ I remember my grandmother had to get Avon's Honeysuckle perfume-ick! There is nothing like the real thing~ Here it is the Gardenia that creates the swoon~ Thank you!

  10. "perfumed waifs of honeyed air
    shouts come-hither"..

I love it all, but the second verse, as you mention above, reads like a lovely memory that you can "suckle" from your whole life! Just lovely!

    1. It does-it isn't a beautiful flower, but its perfume is heaven, for me. I love the memories I have of my grandparent's home. Now, I am homesick...off to make tea! Thank you Margaret~

  14. Honeysuckle is one of my favorite flowers, even hubby likes it. We planted three new plants closer to the house this year because we love the aroma. It's all along the back yard fence but has too short a season!

Lovely poem and lovely thought! Honey Let's Suckle! Oh yeah! :)
