IWSG

Damn, I forgot today is Wednesday.    It is the first of the month and time for a post about the Insecure Writer's Support Group.  Our founder, Alex Cavanaugh encourages us to share a post about our fears or encourage others  and be supportive. If you’d like to join us, click on the tab above and sign up.

 I call Alex-Captain Cool.

I am pleased to announce that the Insecure Writer’s Support Group website is now open!!!

Alex:   It is still a work in progress and we will continue to add to it over time. You will find pages full of links to great sites and databases under the following subjects – Writing Tips; Publishers, Agents, Queries; Self-Publishing; Marketing; Contests; and Publications.

We also have a page where you can leave suggestions for sites to add to the database. Note we are looking for sites, not individual posts!

The IWSG List is also up on the site HERE.    We also have a Facebook page HERE.

The first Wednesday will be an encouraging word from the team, and every Monday will be a post from one of the admins about writing, designed to encourage and give you some valuable information or resources.

Eventually, we’d like to open it up for guest posts on Wednesday, and expand to include Twitter and possibly a newsletter. (The Twitter hashtag is still #IWSG.)

We invite you to follow and explore the new site. And let us know what we can do to make it a great resource for writers. Thanks everyone for your dedication to the IWSG and making this site a reality!

See he is Captain Cool-I told you!

I am struggling these days.  I thought I could do it all, art, poetry, photography and writing, but with my alone time is in short supply.  I am struggling...I am trying to figure out what I really want.  I had this really wild dream the other night...I was sewing a dress with words.  I was tearing pages out of books and stitching them into fabric. Yes, poems, dictionary terms and passages- I love.   I woke up feeling like I had been on an episode of Project Runway...but I felt like my dream was encouraging me to continue writing.   So, I am going to gather my poems and continue.  I want to write several books. We must follow our passion, it guides us out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary.  It is our GPS after all-Gifts, Passion, Spirit and we do have to recalculate sometimes, but as we do we make new discoveries, new friends, find new paths to trend or genres! ;D

Maybe I will make that word dress!

  1. Ellie, you have the very soul of a creative artist and it would be soul-deadening for you to set aside your passion. Other people demand too much of us, but we need to value our selves and our work enough to say: I need some time to create, or I am not happy. That dream is your soul speaking to you. It is not frivolous to pursue your passion for art - it is NECESSARY. You create the most amazing art I have ever seen and write some of the most wonderful poetry. I look forward to your books and I would LOVE to see that dress of words! Maybe you can do a miniature one, as an art piece which speaks of your passion for the written word. It would be wonderful - and then you could photograph it so we could all enjoy it.........never stop. It is who you are. Not doing art would be your one regret at the end of your life, if you set it aside.

    1. Hi Sherry-I have been soul dead before, sort of. I could never not be creative- Yes, it is a battle, we all have to figure out how to manage. The more we give the more is taken sometimes. It is necessary-thank you! I look forward to your books :D I love the sea, just like you and understand your connection! I will make the dress-lol I do not want to regret and wonder what if...we must press onward! YOU need to have a radio show...you could change the world! :D Thank you so much~

  2. Ella, your poem is beautiful and I dream crazy too. Some nights I feel like I'm up all night writing in my dreams, very tiresome. Perhaps it does mean we are to write and will accomplish something good.

I do hope we both figure it out and live our dreams. My dreams make me tired, too.

  6. I find I often have to get rid of things in my life. Clutter has a way of multiplying. I would love to work on art and music, but I have to be realistic and focus on writing at the moment.

Good luck to you Ella as you find your way!

  8. Loved your poem and photos with the cotton. It looked so much like snow. I cut things out of my life to make room for the road to my dreams. I'm so much happier.

  10. Yes Ella, follow your dream, you'll never regret it! Great dream btw - funny thing about art - it's all about following your heart - and as is typical it doesn't pay the bills, but the satisfaction goes well beyond anything financial.

    All the best!

  11. Oh, lost the post I think... but let me try to recall it:

when we drive we should not mix the cotton candy with the cotton gin...
I have fond memories of the cotton field come autumn...when the cupboard was a little bare I found they were edible...but they have effects to consider as when we use cottonseed oil... but what a crop of sweet potatoes to dig when needed even beneath the snow! sorry I am a little lost as to where to post things today here... still, back then the ladies did make their own cotton dresses and in the sunlight we can see thru to your dreaming soul.

  12. Love your thoughts, Ella. For some reason, your words always reach to me. I love it. I've been struggling lately too, but I feel like I'm slowly starting to go on an upswing, so I'll cross my fingers! (For both of us!)

  14. There are so many creative things I used to do, many of which have fallen by the wayside. Some of those I shouldn't have let go of. If you can find the time, hang on to it all.
